Street youth do not go to the clinic: too far, too expensive, too many questions. The project reversed the logic by bringing two nurses to where they sleep, three evenings a week.
Results
- 310 people seen at least once
- Wounds and skin infections: by far the leading reason for consultation
- 41 hospital referrals, of which 29 were actually followed up
What fell short
Follow-up after referral remains the weak point: nearly one young person in three did not attend the appointment obtained. The next phase will need to accompany those journeys in person.
